Repeated request to locate Printer Setup Utility
Hi;
I am using Acrobat Standard v 7.0.8 with Mac OS 10.3.9.
Each time that I use the "Convert to Adobe PDF" menu item in MS Word (v 10.1.7) I am asked "Where is Printer Setup Utility?".
It must be possible to chose this once and have it "stick", right? Please? :)
Guidance would be appreciated, this is really annoying to do over and over.
Thanks, Jack

Re: Repeated request to locate Printer Setup Utility
Jack,
I'd suspect that the Adobe PDF 7.0 virtual printer isn't being setup. If
it is there delete it. In either case go to Detect and Repair under the
help menu. This will hopefully correct everything.

Re: Repeated request to locate Printer Setup Utility
The good news...
I deleted the PDF virtual printer through the Printer Setup Utility and ran the Detect and Repair option under Help.
When I ran Word I was asked to find the Printer Setup Utility (which I expected after deleting it) and the pdf was created.
I created a couple more and was not asked for the Printer Setup Utility anymore.
The bad news...
Next time I launched Word I was (and still am) right back where I started. Each time I click the Create PDF toolbar I have to locate the Printer Setup Utility.
Any other suggestions?

Re: Repeated request to locate Printer Setup Utility
Jack,
The Create PDF toolbar in a Mac offers no extra functionality. It may
be an extra step, but it isn't much harder to go through the print
dialog box. In Windows, the Create pdf toolbar has the capability of
creating more useful pdf files. Hence, when on a Mac most users
actually seem to try to disable the PDF toolbar in Word so that it will
not show up at all.

Re: Repeated request to locate Printer Setup Utility
PDFMaker in Word, flat doesn't work until you update to at least Acrobat 7.0.7. Then and only then does it work. but it doesn't work as you expect. when working you actually receive a PC Windows style Progress box with two buttons. One dismisses the Menu after the box is at 100% complete. The other ask you if you want to preview the PDF. It opens Acrobat or or Reader. and you can view the document. Problem is if Acrobat or Raeder is "already" open the preview fails, because whomever wrote the script expects it to open the Application every time. If already open it doesn't switch to it it fails. But its 300 times better than its been being for last 10-15 years.

Re: Repeated request to locate Printer Setup Utility
Okay, I'm just going to go with the Create PDF file through the Print
dialog box.
What I would like to accomplish now is turning off the useless toolbar.
I use a Powerbook so don't have any extra screen real estate to spare.
I uncheck it in the Word/View/Toolbars, but it is always back when I
start Word the next time.
