Default Resize form fields Acrobat 6.0.1

    Hi,

I am using Acrobat 6.0.1 on WinXP operating system.

I created form fields but am unable to resize them. I want to be able to select all text form fields and have them set to the same height. Unfortunately, my "resize" options are greyed out. Here are the steps that I followed.

    1. Created all forms on my document
    2. Selected a single form field
    3. Right mouse click | Edit | Select All (all text form fields are selected)
    4. Right mouse click | Size ... all options (all options--height, width and both) are greyed out.

How do I access the greyed out commands? Why are they greyed out?

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Best regards,
    Kevin

You may have locked the field. To unlock, right-click on the field and select Properties and uncheck the Locked check box.

Default Re: Resize form fields Acrobat 6.0.1

    Hi George,

Unfortunately, that doesn't solve my problem as the fields are unlocked. I can drag the borders of the fields to enlarge or shrink the fields, but I can't do Resize option from the edit command (steps 3 & 4 in my original message) on a single, group, or entire set of form fields.

I would like to have all my form fields a consistent height because that affects the size of the font used. With even slightly varying heights, I get different fonts and it looks odd. So I was hoping to be able to select all text fields, and then adjust their heights.

    Thank you for your suggestion.

I think you'll just have to select them manually, rather than by doing a "Select All". To select multiple fields, hold down the CTRL key and drag out a rectangle the touches or encloses the fields you want to resize. Otherwise, hold down the SHIFT key and click on individual fields.

Selecting just one field does not make sense in this context. The first field that's selected acts as the size model for the rest, so you'd have to select at least two fields.

    George,

You're right--If I select ONE field and then a second field, the second adopts the height of the first. The grayed out options become life.

Okay, so then how do I select a "parent" field, and designate all the remaining text fields in my document to be the "children" fields so that children fields assume the same height as the original parent?

    Any ideas?

    Hi George,

I can select a single field, then select other fields individually using the shift key. It seems whichever field I select last is the "parent" field for formatting the remaining fields.

That said, I seem to be able to select a few text fields at a time. If I try to select all fields, then it doesn't seem to work. If I select a single field first AND then select ALL fields, it still doesn't work.

I usually use the CTRL+drag method for selecting multiple fields, in which case the parent field is the first one in the tab order.

Note that prior to Acrobat 6, the "Select All" method works, so I suppose it could be considered a bug.

    George,

If you are still tuning in, a quick tangential question: Do you know how to "turn on" the "Set Tab Order" when you right mouse click on a form field? On my document, the option "Set Tab Order" is grayed out.

    Thank you.

First make sure that you're using 6.01. You'll then need to select the "Select Object Tool". You ~should~ then be able to set the tab order, although I've heard reports that some PDFs can be stubborn. It's a bit buggy.

BTW, I still use 4.05 for a majority of my forms work. :^)

(Nice to hear the experts are still using 4.05 for some things... ;))
