resize video output? - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

Hi, I am running debian woody on a sun ultra 10. I changed my monitor from a 19" CRT to a 15" LCD and now all the video output is too large for the screen. This starts with the first boot message and continues when I launch X. How might I change the settings (perhaps for the video card?) so that video output is resized for the screen? My video card is an ATI 3D Rage Pro. thanks, andy...

By "too large", do you mean the characters are large, or they extend off
the top, bottom and sides of the screen?
