resizing stage of large movie - how can I keep my content centered? - Macromedia Director Basics

Hello. I have a fairly large movie that was created with stage size 1366 x 768 which I now need to resize to 1024 x 768. All the content that I want to keep is centered in the middle 1024 pixels of the stage. So I would like to simply crop off the right and left edges (171 pixels from each side), keeping everything in the same position on stage. My problem is that the [modify - movie - properties - stage size] adjustment doesn't work that way. It keeps the same 0,0 point and lops all 342 pixels off ...

Default resizing stage of large movie - how can I keep my content centered?

It keeps the same 0,0 point and lops all 342 pixels off the right hand side. After doing this I am left with an unwanted bare strip on the left side, and 171 pixels of my material are hanging off-stage on the right side.

If this were a small movie I could just select everything and drag it all 171 pixels to the left. However the movie is so large (4500 frames and 230 channels) that my computer hangs and crashes when I attempt to move everything together, even when I break it into several large chunks. Doing it in smaller pieces is going to be a real nightmare for re-registration.

So I have two questions, please:

1- Is there a way to resize the stage centered on the midpoint rather than measuring from top left corner?

2- If not, is there a simple way to select my entire movie content and cleanly move it all, en masse, a certain specified (relative) distance to the left?

I have a feeling there is some very basic answer here so thank you for your patience with a non-expert.

    best regards,

In my experience, there is no simple way to do this.

Your best bet would probably be to select the whole score (open the score
and use Ctrl-a to select all) and move all your sprites at once using the
tweak inspector (under the modify menu).
