Restart looses all CFM pages
I'm at a losss here. We upgraded from 6.1 to 7.02 via the download install and
applying CD key (Window 2003 SP2). Everytime we upgrade part one goes ok and
then we musty run the Administrator program, if it does complete (50%) of time
nad we get to the end of migration, then CFM pages will work until we need to
make a change and restart the service, once that happens all CFM pages fail to
load (page not found) and we get NULL 500 on the Administrator page. The only
way to recover is a uninstall and reinstall. We've even taken to rebooting a
couple times, still once we make a change (a legit change as it runs fine in
our test server) and restart the service, it's pooched. I'm pretty sure even if
we reboot the server we'll loose it. I tried applying hotfix one and hotfix two
for 7.02, they broke everything right off the bat, so we've given up on those.
Not even a restart of the App service can bring back the CFM pages, there is
something horribly wrong in there when a reboot kills your CFM pages and no
errors that I know whjere to look to see why it is happening.

Re: Restart looses all CFM pages
you need to post more details.
which webserver are you using?
what kind of cf install are you running: standalone; jrun; other servlet
container etc.
If you are running standalone/jrun what is in the contents of the logs in:
C:\CFusionMX7\runtime\logs\
or C:\JRun4\logs\cfusion*
These will tell you about any problems that the underlying cf server
application may be experiencing.

Re: Restart looses all CFM pages
I'm usually somewhat capable of reading logs, but these make little sense to
me. They're all in the C:\CFusionMX7\runtime\logs and things like
'java.lang.StackOverflowError' at ... (coldfusion-err.log), or log4j:ERROR No
output stream or file set for the appender named [null].
In 'coldfusion-event.log', 03/29 06:06:18 error
java.lang.StackOverflowError,at ... then lists many.
In coldfusion-out.log, 03/29 07:24:56 Error [jrpp-10] - Error Executing
Database Query so with so many logging, I assume some are less significant than
others.

Re: Restart looses all CFM pages
if you haven't done so, stop cf, delete the logs, start cf but don't browse the
site yet. Read through the logs until you get to the first error. This will,
more likely than not, be the root of your problem.
If you are stuck, then post your 'fresh' logs.

Re: Restart looses all CFM pages
Ok, I took your advice, did get something of interest.
"03/30 02:25:14 warning Unable to open
C:\CFusionMX7\runtime/lib/license.properties"
I read before where the NULL 500 is related to this, I can find and open file
but I notice the different \ and / in path name.
If I knew where that info was stored, I would edit it to reflect either \ or /
all the way through.

Re: Restart looses all CFM pages
Well here are my logs, I used another license file as per documentation and
still same error. By default it's not even located in that folder, in the test
box and this one the license file it's actually in C:\CFusionMX7\lib
From coldfusion-err.log
log4j:ERROR setFile(null,true) call failed.
java.io.FileNotFoundException: log\test.log (The system cannot find the path
specified)

Re: Restart looses all CFM pages
Hi Brett702,
we have the same issues going on, it started a few days before your post. We
think it started when our windows 2003 automatically upgraded itself to
SP2...anyhow we've pretty much installed and reinstalled everything and our CF
server just shuts down on us everytime. I think you're seeing the same thing,
on the live server since more than 2 IPs connect to the server it shuts down,
somehow I think the server thinks it's in the Development version and not the
Ent. so when more than 2 IPs connect to it it shuts down!
I've reinstalled our server and I have checked my S/N with the Adobe guys and
it is fine, I just don't know how to fix this issue and it's driving me crazy!!!

Re: Restart looses all CFM pages
Have you tried simply re-entering your license in the cf administrator?

Re: Restart looses all CFM pages
We're still seeing the problem, this is with MX7 rigtht, I see by your log it
looks like MX6? I think I've narrowed it down to the migration and some issue.
I may reinstall again, NOT migrate (hack the adminpanel.xml) and then manually
do all the stuff over again.

Re: Restart looses all CFM pages
Technical. If you can, get into the administrator and enter your license.
If you are having difficulties, try browsing
http://127.0.0.1:8300/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm
Obviously, you will need to be remote desktopped/vnc'd in.
Sometimes CF loses it's license information. I don't know why.

Re: Restart looses all CFM pages
Right I will try that. Interesting if it is a licensing issue, then you'd
think I could get into the admin panel regardless of license. When I restart
ALL CFM pages will NOT load, hence the ADMIN panel is out too. But I'll RD in
and apply the license again, couldn't hurt.
I also found a hotfix for Win2K3 SP2 regarding JET
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933452/en-us?spid=3198
Seems far fetched but I may apply that as we have several Access ODBC
connections and the migrate is what appears to be killing it. If I hack the
adminpanel XML and stop all migration, I can stop start serviecs with no issue.

Re: Restart looses all CFM pages
The hotfix does want a reboot (contrary to MS docs) as well there is a
critical patch being released tonight so I will wait until then, reboot, see if
we get good. I also placed in the serial number again just for good measure.

Re: Restart looses all CFM pages
I also got the hotfix and restarted the server...I'm not sure where on the CF Admin pages I can re-enter the Serial Number...where did u you enter it at?

Re: Restart looses all CFM pages
On the top menu, System Information, that top page has it. The submit changes, doesn't prompt for a restart. Did you reboot after the jet fix? if so, did the CFM pages still load?

Re: Restart looses all CFM pages
yeah got it...I re-entered the S/N...my screen froze afterwards so I restarted the server anyways. I just did it so let's see if anything changes.

Re: Restart looses all CFM pages
yes, all pages load up, everything seems to be working fine until multiple
users log in at the same time. Then the CF MX Application Server just stops!
I'll keep an eye on the log files and keep you posted.
How are things at your end?

Re: Restart looses all CFM pages
Will have to wait until late tonight to reboot, critical security patch from MS being release tonight so I can do all at same time. Tough to reboot production servers.
