Thanks, everybody. In answer to your questions:

    - This will be a standalone PC, in the museum, to be used only for accessing the 30 or so WWW research sites chosen by the museum.

    - Each approved site's link will be provided, and the PC will have a direct Internet connection.

    - Some folks at the museum are concerned that these unsupervised visitor/users will use the PC to surf instead of do research. They want a product that restricts access to only the chosen sites.

Darrel, I guess users can't very well be prevented from using the links they find on one of the approved sites. When I took Lanny's suggestion and examined bonus.com, I saw that one of their techniques was to simply remove the address window from the browser's toolbar. Experimenting with that, I realized that a) preventing the use of an approved site's links would be HARD, but b) without the address window, all a person can do is hop around amongst sites on similar topics. Unless of course some wacko puts a smut link on a research site!!

In fact, the bonus.com technique would suit my purposes IF I could remove the generic file-edit-view-help tool set. As long as it's accessible, the unscrupulous/savvy user could use it to simply put the address window back and surf away. Anyone know how to do that?

I don't have Dreamweaver, Murray, but I do have Director. Might that be a practical choice? Maybe I should put my questions to the Dir. forum, too...

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

    Eileen

Their real trick, though, is filtering their recommended sites' content
dynamically to disable all off-site links. Very crafty.
