Retrospect alternatives? - Mac Applications & Software

Retrospect works, but the UI is annoying and confusing and clumsy (at least to me) and I'd like to switch. Are there any other good backup programs with a better user interface that back up to CD, DVD and other hard drives? (Yes, I use Carbon Copy Cloner, but I'm wondering about an all-in-one solution)...

Apple's own Backup utility backs up to CD and DVD, and 2.0 now backs up
    to hard drives as well.

AFAIK, you can still only get it by being a .Mac subscriber (although
you don't have to keep your .Mac account to keep using it).

What about an alternative to TAPE backup? There's no SCSI tape driver
delivered with X 10.2.6, so I bought Retrospect Desktop to be able to
backup to my existing HyperDAT drive. dump/restore and cpio are
included but there's no way to write to tape.
