RH8.0 - Creating symbolic link - Operation not permitted - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

I'm running RH8.0 and when I try to create any symbolic link I get the following error: ln: creating symbolic link `network.o' to `network-linux.o': Operation not permitted I am running and root, any ideas on what could be causing this ?...

    I'm running RH8.0 and when I try to create any symbolic link I get the
    following error:

    ln: creating symbolic link `network.o' to `network-linux.o': Operation not
    permitted

    I am running and root, any ideas on what could be causing this ?

    Full paths where needed.

    You aren't trying to link two modules are you?

    Hi Paul.

    You are right, there is one small piece of information missing, which turns
    out seems to be the cause of the problem. The partition I am trying this is
    a partition that I use to share files between Linux and Windows (this is a
    dual boot system), which has been formated as FAT.
    So in this case, appart from the possibility of moving the files over to a
    true Linux partition any workaround ?
