Rotated jpegs are jagged

Default Rotated jpegs are jagged

I'm not a designer - just trying to sort some stuff of my own.

Here's my issue...

I have some jpegs which I want to rotate 10-15 degrees and overlay casually onto each other for a 'snapshots thrown on table' effect and save as jpeg for web use, not print.

I have Illustrator and Photoshop (I rarely use them and find them very complex).

When importing/placing/opening the jpegs and rotating, their outlines are jagged.
There's a similar - though lesser - example on a jpeg at the Apple site.
The lower left edge of the bridge photo (under the rocks) shows jaggy.

Why? And how do I fix this?

Help appreciated. Please and thanks.

Use save for the web and make sure anti alias is checked! But you will not get it perfect because of the resolution of the monitors and the nature of optimized jpegs.

After all it's the web.

You need to rotate the images at higher resolution, before sizing them down at 72 ppi.

Thanks Wade.
The saved jpeg looks a lot better than it does before saving.
I'd never have guessed. Lesson learned.

Thanks Gary - how do I do this?
If I increase the resolution to 300/600 dpi with Graphic Converter, when opened in AI the image is correspondingly smaller than previously.

If you only have access to the 72 ppi images, then that's what you have to use. Resampling the image or changing the res without resampling won't change anything, and you'll have to rely on antiailasing.
