rounding a marque corner without feathering
how do you create a rounded corner? The feather option on a square marquee does it nicely but I don't want the corner to be feathered. Any suggestions?

Make your selection as normal, then go Selection>Modify>Smooth and enter in a number. Should round the corners nicely and without feathering.

Re: rounding a marque corner without feathering
I'd group the layers instead. Draw your rounded rectangle with the shape tool. In the layer tab, drag the shape layer below the image layer you want to apply the shape to. Hold the Alt button down and click on the line which divides the two layers. This will group the layers, essentially the lower shape masks the upper layer. Now you can edit the artwork layer without having to worry about keeping the rounded rectangle shape. You can also change the shape layer as you want.
