Default Rubber stamp won't stay fixed; FW4, OS 9.1

I want the rubber stamp tool to copy an area and stay there while I paint with it. I set the source in the tool options pallette to fixed, but nothing changes, the blues circle keeps following the cursor around. I'm using Fireworks 4 with Mac OS 9.1. I tried restarting, but that didn't help.

    Any ideas?

The stamp tool's "source aligned" behavior seems odd here as well. With
source aligned deselected, the source stays in a fixed position only on
click--during click+drag it adopts the "source aligned" behavior. -Tom Unger

Uncheck Source aligned, then click on the area you want as your source.
Move the cursor to the place you want to stamp and click. Press Shift to
continue stamping pixels from the original source.
