Default Running headers In Design CS or 2

I have a 7,000 page directory to lay out and need desperately to include running heads. Unfortunately I cannot use the facility in In Design CS as I have multiple individual tables on a page and need to inlude the running head outside of the tables at the top.

Does anyone know of a plug in that could help me out of this hole?
    thanks all

Master pages would do this job wonderfully. Of course, you would have to have one master page for each running head, but that will still drastically reduce the number of changes/edits you have to make.

Thanks for your reply. However, what I need is for the program to automatically generate the running heads based on the first or last entry on the page. PageMaker can do this, you just specify what to take as a header via the inbuilt utility (ie select the paragraph or character style name to take from the top or bottom of the page) and press a button and there it is, generated for you. I'm trying to avoid having to enter the detail manually.

    From the Indesign Help files:

"InDesign does not automatically create running headers and footers, such
as those used in directories and dictionaries, that update to reflect
the content of each page. For information about using scripting to create
running headers and footers, see the Scripting Guide in the Adobe InDesign
Technical Info folder on the InDesign CD."

You can also get help from the InDesign Scripting forum. There may be folks there who have already created scripts.

I have a Java Script that does this for some templates that we use. It could probably be modified to do what you want. Send me email if you're interested.
