Samba help - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

Okay, I don't get it. I installed RH 9 (server installation) and included Samba in the installation, among other choices. Using the xwindow config tool, I set the workgroup name to Linux. Nothing showed up in My Network Places on my w2k box. I have another pc that I installed RH 9 on for testing/getting to know Linux. I configured samba and accepted the default workgroup name 'mygroup'. Worked like a charm, so I copied the smb.conf from that machine to the w2k box, then to the original linux box, added the shares and restarted the smb service. Still didn't ...

    Default Samba help

Okay, I don't get it. I installed RH 9 (server installation) and
included Samba in the installation, among other choices. Using the
xwindow config tool, I set the workgroup name to Linux. Nothing showed
up in My Network Places on my w2k box. I have another pc that I
installed RH 9 on for testing/getting to know Linux. I configured
samba and accepted the default workgroup name 'mygroup'. Worked like a
charm, so I copied the smb.conf from that machine to the w2k box, then
to the original linux box, added the shares and restarted the smb
service. Still didn't show up. I restarted the sever. No dice. I'm
somewhat new to linux and would appreciate any advice. Here's some
more info on the config...Authentication mode: Share; Encrypt
    Passwords: Yes.

What do you mean? Server or client?

Uhhhhh ... please just edit the config file, or nobody will know what
you mean, or be able to know exactly what your mistake is.

Have you read up on your problem at samba.org?

What do you mean "show up"? Give the name of your linux box EXPLICITLY
in the 2k window, and it'll be connected to. Unless you set the shares
as browsable, there's no reason they would "show up" on a scan, and
there are other things you may have set wrong too. Scanning the config
file would tell you. As would looking on samba.org.

Thanks for your reply. I will grab more reading material and if unable
to resolve the problem--not being able to see the Linux server in My
Network Places--I will repost with the smb.conf.
