save as limited to indesign only?
Is there a way to save your work that can open in pagemaker 7 because here in the philippines almost all publishing companies don't know how to use indesign they are more convenient in using pagemaker 7, guess they don't open for a new and more powerful software in desktop publishing. and just wondring when i tried to "save as" my work there are no other formats available but indesign only. why is that? i'm just a new user of indesign 2.0. thanks

Re: save as limited to indesign only?
No. If you want them to be able to edit your files, then you would need to be working in PageMaker 7 too. If you want them to be able to output your files for you, then talk to them about using PDF. It's a better workflow anyway for the vast majority of situations.

No

More like cheap and lazy is what it is.

publishing
They better or they are going to find out that more customers are going to be walking away from them than walking in to do business. You should find a publishing company that knows about publishing anyway.
PageMaker = Page Layout
InDesign = Desktop Publishing
Quark = Desktop Publishing
Microsoft Publisher = Frisbee :D
and just wondring when i tried to "save as" my work there are no other
formats available but indesign only. why is that?
Back-saving or saving as something else will eliminate the special features and formatting. The result is you end up with a stripped/undesirable file.
i'm just a new user of indesign 2.0. thanks
That's great! At least you can back save on that one. The new InDesign CS 3.0 doesn't even let you save as InDesign 2.0 or 1.5. :)
What you can do is use the export command to save your file as something other than an ID file but but when opened using different software, the publication may or will not appear the same as it did in Indy.

Nope. ID has never had the ability to backsave.
Microsoft Publisher = Frisbee
LOL.

Re: save as limited to indesign only?
I just realized that also said you can export the file as something else. Is this info correct? I'm not on ID 2 at the moment so I can't verify that.
I would like to know for future posts.

Re: save as limited to indesign only?
If you create the PDF properly, it will be fine. AFAIC, it's the
preferred method for print.

Re: save as limited to indesign only?
Examine the options in the PDF export dialog and you'll quickly see that the range of resolution choices to you cover everything from "small as possible for screen" to "highest resolution possible for press".

Re: save as limited to indesign only?
Leinan:
Go to File>Export--the PDF file export dialog will open--talk with your printer. Find out line screen etc. and then set up for pre press inside of ID. And don't let your printer tell you, you can't print out of InDesign!!!! (I still get that from 1 printer here in Denver...ID is not "professional" enough for him to take PDF's!)
InDesign PDF's are wonderful in the hands of a reasonably good printer and fantastic in the hands of an execellent one.

Re: save as limited to indesign only?
Christine I'll try that one. But are you sure that there will be no problem about the image? It might change a little bit in PDF's don't you think? At least that's what the printer always tells me they don't want me to pass a finish design in pdf because the image change a little bit. I don't know if they are telling me the truth or they just don't know how.

Re: save as limited to indesign only?
Could be anything with JPGs including being saved as progressive. I
would never even consider using JPGs for print.
