Save / Export Transparent .gif to .jpg with specific background color

Hello:

Have a transparent .gif that I'd like higher resolution on. My thought is
to export as a .jpg, but I'll need a specific background color as apart of
it to make this work.

Is this possible?

Is there a better approach to the problem?

JPEG will not only not improve your GIF image, it will make it worse. The image can be upsampled in Photoshop, but you won't create detail and resolution that are not already there.

Paul, have you tried the Photoshop forum? Raster to raster is not exactly Illy stuff.

So if I' want to stay with .gif, which I'd actually prefer, is there a way to get highr resolution? It is a fairly simple drawing, and one that I don't mind re-doing.

If I make original drawing 4x the size I intend to use it as, then scale down do I gain resolution with a .gif?

Paul,

The GIF format carries NO physical sizing or resolution meta-data at all. It
is merely x-pixels by y-pixels, and it is left to the receiving application
to determine at what size to display the image.

Almost invariably, applications will use the current screen resolution for
that purpose, and map one image pixel to one screen pixel.

Therefore you have no way of telling an application to automatically scale
the image to any particular dimension. There is no such thing as a "300 ppi"
gif or a "72 ppi" gif or a "4in x 3in" gif. All you can have is an x-pixel
by y-pixel gif

No. Your image has all the resolution it ever will. Increasing the number of pixels used to make a circular blob won't make the blob any more circular. Your image is like a Lego builbing. Making it bigger will make the same building out of bigger Legos, not more Legos.

You say you can redraw it. Go ahead, then. But if you draw the artwork at 4x its current size, then save your GIF at 25%, you won't gain any benefit. A pixel is as small a detail as a GIF can contain. You can't work in fractions.

I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve. An image on screen has only one available resolution: 1 ppp (one pixel per pixel). The image can be rendered at varying levels of quality or antialiasing. Perhaps that's what you are aiming for? Can you post a link to the current image, so er have an idea of your problem?

"Resolution" and "webpage" used together is an oxymoron.

Browsers will always display and image at screen rez, regardless of whether
it is saved at 72ppi or 300ppi - the only difference is that the 300 ppi
image will appear 4x larger on screen. You can use HTML code to scale an
image, but it really isn't to be recommended.
