Save problem... - Macromedia Freehand

I'm working in FreeHand 11 (MX) on files that reside on a Windows Small Business Server, over gigabit ethernet. Dual 2.5 Gz G5 Mac running Panther 10.3.9. Same problem occurs on an identical Mac, but not all files.... Yesterday began noticing a weird issue(s) when ever I saved a file in progress. When I hit the save button: It may just save the file... Or it may open the dialogue box like I?m going to do a ?save as?, and I can save the file "over itself", but it does not ask if I want to replace it... Or I ...

    Default Save problem...

    I'm working in FreeHand 11 (MX) on files that reside on a Windows Small

    10.3.9. Same problem occurs on an identical Mac, but not all files....

    Yesterday began noticing a weird issue(s) when ever I saved a file in
    progress. When I hit the save button:

    It may just save the file...

    Or it may open the dialogue box like I?m going to do a ?save as?, and I can
    save the file "over itself", but it does not ask if I want to replace it...

    Or I get a dialogue box ? Could not save the doent because the file is
    already in use or was left open.?

    If I cancel the save... THE FILE DISAPPEARS.

    It leaves a "temp0" file, which when dragged over the FH icon opens the
    doent correctly. I have been able to salvage the files from there. A couple
    of projects have created over 20 temp files....

    This just started yesterday. Day before no problem, have repaired permissions,
    run MacJanitor, rebooted the server, etc. I moved working files off the server
    to my computer and the problem ceases, so that's an easy workaround until my IT
    guy gets here.

    Anybody else seen this problem?

    My advice is to make this your normal workflow. Use the OS to copy files to
    and from the server.

    Also, get in the habit of making periodic incremental backups under new
    filenames. It's a good idea, especially when your system is acting a bit
    flaky, to immediately do a 'Save as...' under a new filename as soon as you
    open a file to work on it. That way, if you lose the current file, you have
    the previous version as a backup.

    Thanks for the info!

    In case anyone is interested, we fixed the problem.

    On my particular computer, I had just installed Virex from .mac the day
    before, I was just "ing" around, checking it out, as I did not have any
    anti-virus protection on this Mac. An identical Mac did not have any anti-virus
    installed... and was not having any problems, whatsoever.

    Removing it and all the related files seems to solve the problem,
    immediately.....

    Also spent some time on the Virex Discussion Boards ? I don't think I'll be
    installing Virex anytime soon.....
