Default Saving EPS as transparent from FHMX?

    Hi folks,

I need to save EPS files from Freehand MX as transparent images, so that they can be laid over another file in Quark XPress. Does anyone know how this can be done? It's very straightforward in Illustrator - in the "save" options there is a box to check for "transparent" but I can't seem to find anything similar in Freehand...

I usually save as editable eps, and I never have to do anything special or
check any 'transparent' selection -- as long as there is no background in
the file, there s/b no problem with superimposing the graphic over anything
in Quark. In Quark, make sure the fill for your graphics frame you place the
eps in is set to 'none', as Quark's default is to have a white fill in its
object frames & text boxes -- that could be where your problem lies.

If you are exporting from a windows machine, FH does not offer the same eps
preview features as illustrator. You are stuck with an opaque (Tiff color)
preview, unless you export as an eps with a black and white (Tiff bitmap)
preview. Preview options are set in the Preferences > Export tab.

Note that regardless of the state of the preview, 'empty' areas in
the FH drawing will come out 'transparent' on any PostScript printer.
To position images with opaque previews either take measurements and
place them 'by the numbers', or Delete and immediately Undo to
'flash' the background behind the graphic for comparison. But while
one-bit previews are ugly they're indeed transparent, so exporting
that way might be the simplest solution.
