Default Saving EPS file in Illustrator 10, to be used in Quark 6.0

    Hi.

My company has forms that were created in Quark 4 and now when I'm editing them in Quark 6, the eps images (previously created in IL 9) are jagged and hardly show.

I've tried re-doing them in IL 10, saving them as an eps and bringing them into Quark, but they still look bad.

I would REALLY appreciate quick help as I have many changes to make to the forms and can't do so until I figure this out. Thanks!

    Shauna,

If I understand your problem, placed Illustrator eps (in Quark) will look jagged; that is normal because Quark only shows a low resolution version of the placed eps.

If it looks fine in Illustrator, it will look fine in print.

Thanks for the advice. It prints ok to my printer, but not when I print it to my Acrobat distiller. Looks like I need to check out that forum. : )

You can also download the hires preview plug-in from the Quark website. It will make it look beautiful on screen (although it does slow down preview quite a bit). As for the PDF - GOOD LUCK!

It looks to me like there is a problem with the postscript driver you are using to make the pdf with.

If you are simply selecting 'save as pdf' when inside the print options this does not seem to run the job through a proper postscript driver and all eps images will therefore look lo-res in the final pdf.

You actually have to select your pdf printer driver and all options associated with it (ie: distiller job options etc), then when you press print it asks for the new pdf filename and takes you back to the Quark print options where you need to press print again...

This should now correctly print your job to pdf.

ps: You could also try 'export as pdf' under the 'file' menu in Quark for quick results but as far as I can remember it doesnt give you any options such as printing with crop marks, separations etc that are found in the Quark print/page setup screen.
