Saving for Previous Versions of Director
I have only done it once before, and now have gone crazy.

THere's really no backward compatibility support, it happens that MX
files can be opened by 8.5, bud as a rule there's no going back.
You can play older versions as a movie in a window, telling it to
copyToClipboard is one avenue to extract a few critical elements.

It was updated for D8.5, but it works for DirMX to Dir8, too. DirMX and
Dir8.5 have the same relavent hex code.
