saving Freehand files for use in Illustrator
I am not a Freehand user but do receive Freehand files from time to time to open in illustrator - they are simple vector based images which we silk screen print onto pens and lighters. Some open without a problem but others don't.
If my client does not have Illustrator - how do I ask him to save the Freehand file so I an open it in illustrator? Is there a preference he must specify in the saving process?
sorry to be dim...

Re: saving Freehand files for use in Illustrator
You're not dim - it's a valid question. Export to Illustrator is an option in FreeHand, under "file."
Conversely, saving a native Illustrator 9 or 10 file back to version 7 or earlier will enable FHMX to open it up. You still have to be vigilant for things like the differing ways these apps handle things like gradient fills, as well as text flow issues (if you are dealing with editable text, that is).

Glad to help, Mindy. Just swapping Karma, I guess; plenty of people have helped shed some light on my own questions. What goes around comes around - cheers.

Re: saving Freehand files for use in Illustrator
Hey Max,
Have you noticed a different tone in the forums these days? Since the release of MXa?
It's back to what more of what this forum should be about.
Helping others solve problems and getting our own problems solved in return.
Me thinks it's called a win/win situation.
:-)
Glad to have you (and the rest) here to help.
