Default Saving InDesign documents in a previous format

The graphic community is been so loyal to Adobe by buying their products and not using piracy but I don’t thing Adobe is been fair to us. Their last move of not letting us save-down to previous versions of InDesign is unacceptable and adobe should figure out a way to allow CS to save at least to version 2.0. I do not want to upgrade from 2.0 to CS because I can do well for now with version 2.0. The features of CS are not that important to me. Now I am been force to do it because I can not take any files from people on CS.

I do not believe that the explanation given by Adobe on this issue.http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/322be.htm.

This has been discussed to death. No version of ID has ever been able to
back save. If your clients are using CS then upgrading to support them
is part of doing business.

If you don't want to do it, then give them my name. I could alway use a
little more business.

InDesign does not save to PageStream for my Amiga computer. How am I supposed to share files with the multitude of Amiga PageStream users? Quark is equally to blame. I cannot accommodate version 4 users from Quark 6.

Assuming that you are using InDesign for business purposes, it is a reasonable business decision to spend $169 to do business with other CS users. The cost of this upgrade could be absorbed in a single design job.

What really makes me mad is that Indesign CS cannot save files as hand-scratched stone; how does Adobe expect me to be able to alter files for distribution to other cave clans? I actually have to print files out onto paper and then use that as a guide to chiesel or scratch it onto the cave walls of my customers. Oh well, at least the paper's good for starting a fire afterwards.

Besides Michael's sarcasm (well understood) people in general don't like being forced making one way decisions without alternatives. This is philosophical. (On this I agree with the poster)

What's really sad is that people occupied in a highly technical environment, have no grasp of the issues. This is reality.

While discussed to death, it keeps on coming back proving that they haven't (or ever will?) any idea of the technical problems.

If I saved a Photoshop CS PSD file with artwork that's entirely on spot channels, placed this in ID CS along with some cosy Japanese style colored dots for underlining text and saved this backwards as ID2.x file, what would I get if I opened it in ID2.x for editing? Just asking.

PS Another question might be: Why IDCS cann't run under DOS3.2?

While all the technical arguments for not being able to backsave are valid,
let's not forget that Adobe did try it - or at least, meant to try it. So
somebody driving InDesign development must feel that backsaving is
desirable, or that the demand for it is convincing.

Desirable, Yes. Convincing, Yes. For us at least here, I would like it very much.
But obviously overwhelming for development.

I wouldn't like to wait for another year or pay double for such a feature. There is a price for evolution.

Are you in prepress? If so, and if you are advertising that you support
CS, then you need to upgrade. If you don't claim to support CS then
these folks who are using CS shouldn't be giving you their business.

The resolution to your problem is very simple. *You* may not need the
new features of IDCS, but if you're providing a service to others then
it's your responsiblity to upgrade in order to continue to provide that
service, or refer them elsewhere.
