Saving or Overwriting Illustrator EPS files

When opening an Illustrator 10 EPS file, and after making alterations to it, upon re-saving this file, I am receiving a -36 Error -- Unable to Save Illustration. If I save the file with a different name, everything is fine. It only happens when trying to "Save" or "Overwrite" an existing EPS file. I have had this problem in past versions of Illustrator and have found that by quitting other software, such as QuarkXPress, which may have a link to the EPS file, I have been able to get past this error. However, with Version 10, I am UNable to get around it and have to utilize a different name.

Is there a Preferences setting that I have missed for this error, or is there another remedy that I can use?

Are you saving your file to a server? Have you updated to 10.0.3?

YES, I am using 10.0.3 and YES, I am saving my files back to a server.

My client is complaining about the same problem, and yes and yes, to your questions. Also the server is running OSX 10.3.2 server software on a g5. I was hoping to see a solution here, has this been identified and resolved?

No, I have not yet seen a resolution to the problem posted here. While I do not know many details about our server, I do know that it is a PC server and is running on Windows NT 4 operating system. If anyone has a solution, please post it.

I am having the same problem. Besides not being able to save over an eps file, I also can't delete the temp files. I have read that we are supposed to turn off auto protection in the norton anti virus general preferences. I am going to try that and see what happens.

I really don't know that much about servers and working across a network only having limited experience with it.

I am just wondering if you guys are properly disconnecting from the server and quitting AI before you do so when turning in for the night.

I am not sure I am saying that correctly but I think you know what I mean.

I've always saved to the network so that my files are backed up at night.
I've never had this problem until using ILL 10. So far I haven't found a solution on here.

I am running 10.0.3 and I am not using a server (just a switch).

I just had this problem with another computer at work.

The person was saving the file to a folder on her desktop. We moved the folder to one on her hard drive and it seemed to fix it.
