Scaling objects containing text?

    Default Scaling objects containing text?

Having recreated (re-spaced/kerned and adjusted any baseline shifts) the text in CS after converting a good old version 8 file I thought that I'd soon be able to start creating some decent artwork. However I have a panel with text and keylines in it, it is for some packaging and the panel contains Ingredients and some tabbed text and other information, when the whole panel is 'scaled' using the scale tool, ALL the text re-flows.

Is there a preference that overcomes this or is this another appalling feature if an iffy upgrade?

Come on Adobe, why are you making our jobs so much harder?

Type will reflow when scaled, especially if it has any paragraph formatting, including hyphenation. Tabs and indents and other formatting will not scale. These are problems to be solved in an update.

Doug are you sure of that try and let me know if that happens!

I have a Paragraph Style applied with indents ect. and the Tabs and the indents seem to scale? As does the text without reflowing?

Ooops that is partially correct the Tabs and Indents don't scale but the rest does scale without reflow.

Yes tabs and indents are problematic. This we established early on in CS's life. This problem causes type to reflow. Now if you have no particular paragraph formatting, and you scale proprotionally, I don't believe there should be any reflow.

To say I am dissapointed with Illustrator CS is an understatement, I was lead to believe that the new text engine was so superior to the last and that was why we had to 'put up with' reformatting text from earlier versions of Illustrator and then not be able to export the text back down into editable earlier versions.

When will the new update be available?, because at the moment the package is almost unusable, or is that almost usable? For the time being I'll stick to 8 in classic mode.

Tabs, indents, space before, space after settings will cause reflow when scaling the type block on my AICS. I'm sure there are other paragraph level formatting options that will not cause reflow.

There are people who say this about 9 and 10 I am wondering what your response to them would be?

I think it is a question of how you use AI CS that is really the problem here, for instance Doug here uses it to see if he can find the most obscure bug in the world and this search is an unending quest. But it has kept him busy so in that respect AI CS is a complete success.

You see he is pleased and you are not, for him these small problems are features
and he won't have it another way. One person's discards are another's find!

I was reading this post to see if someone had figured out a workaround for the problem of the text attributes not scaling right and I see that nobody has.

What we do when we have to scale our full size layouts down is; save the file as an eps, then place that file and scale it. We have to keep our layouts in Illustrator CS because of the new foreign language features and we don't want to outline them.
