    Default scanner on Ubuntu 5.10

    Good morning,

I am trying to use my 7/8 j old Scanner "Optrox Photomaker 3E" to work via
    Ubuntu 5.10.
Apparently trere are no drivers for this one? This Company does not exists
    anymore, since a few years.

    It works fine under Win98/Win2000pro.

Does someone know a way? I use XSane :-) and a very new "newbie" in Linux.
Connected direct to LPT1 and printer out to my HP916C

    Thanks in advance,

I can't be real helpful, because I am fairly new myself. Do a search and
see if you can find your Scanner in SANE. Also, if you find some
documentation, there may be a generic driver that will work. If not you
should be able to copy your driver from windows and possibly use it. I
had a time getting my scanner working and can't really reproduce for you
how I did it. I just know with a bit of searching there is a wealth of
information out there. You may also try the Ubuntu forums. You could try
either the beginners section or the hardware section. You can also
search the forum and possibly find a solution. I just checked SANE and
your scanner is unsupported. Don't know what to tell you. Maybe someone
can help you out. Good luck.

I did and could not find it.

The problem in Windows 2000pro is that I have to use 2 drivers to make it
work. I have to install the W95 driver first and then the NT driver.
(found this years ago on a US site somewhere in Florida, I think :-) )

So, I do not dare to try this in Ubuntu...

I did, in the Dutch ones. I will try the English forums later on.

    Yes, that I knew :-)

Thanks for your reply, Gregg, and I will try the other forums!
To scan now I have to go to Windows via VMware...
    Have a nice day!
