    Default Scratch Error on boot-up

    We just installed a new HD 0 on a 5.0.5 box. No problems except for a
    stange msg when we hit CTRL-D during boot up:

    fsstat: cannot determine filesystem type of /dev/scratch
    /dev/scratch not a valid file system <error 22>

    Yes, we divvied the drive correctly and it shows scratch as a non fs
    in division 5.

    I think the problem is caused by duplicate SCRATCH entries in the
    /etc/default/boot file:

    #ScoAdminInit BOOTMNT {RO RW NO} RO
    #
    DEFBOOTSTR=hd(40)unix swap=hd(41) dump=hd(41) root=hd(42)
    AUTOBOOT=YES
    FSCKFIX=YES
    MULTIUSER=YES
    PANICBOOT=NO
    MAPKEY=YES
    SERIAL8=NO
    SLEEPTIME=0
    BOOTMNT=RO
    SCRATCH=/dev/scratch
    SYSTTY=1
    TIMEOUT=10
    apm.exists=ignore
    SCRATCH=/dev/scratch

    But - before I eliminate at least one of those SCRATCH entries, I
    wanted validation - confirmation - applause?

    Is it safe to remove either or both of the SCRATCH's from
    /etc/default/boot?

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Yes, remove one of them.

    Then have a look at /etc/default/filesys.

    Thanks. Removed the extra SCRATCH references from /etc/default/boot & the
    scratch ref from /etc/default/filesys. Clean boot.
