Screen Artifact
Hello All,
May i know how to get rid of screen artifact (white line) when outputting to a RIP? Sometime we also experiencing missing fonts when RIP although fonts are embedded in PDF. Is it true that a PDF document cannot content more than 1 type of font? which will cause issue.
The PDF file was made for output and was provided to us by third party.
Is there anyway to solve this issue?
Thanks

Re: Screen Artifact
jenoloo,
what type of RIP are you using? Do you drop the PDF in a hot folder or do you print from Acrobat to the RIP?
The white lines usually only appear if you view a PDF that has gone through a flattening process of transparencies. You can avoid the lines on the screen by disabling the "Smooth" options in Acrobats "Page Display Settings".
If have only seen white lines on the plate, if a transparency got flatten with tools from the CS1 suite or before Acrobat 7.
If you still see white lines on your plates, then make sure the RIP is not performing any anti aliasing.
best regards
Peter

These are one of the many kinds of font allowed in a PDF. Most often
these will be used for a font that was originally OpenTypeCheck the fonts are embedded. If they are, your RIP is at fault and>

you should contact the maker. Many older RIPs have this problem, but
no shop offering to take PDF files should still be using out of date
RIPs.

Hi Peter, Ive seen quite a few times, in the early days (ID v2) it was down to our RIP. One which gets through here quite a lot (now with v1.5 pdf compatible RIP) is under the following circumstances:
In Photoshop, Save an image about A4 in size as a spot colour EPS duotone.
Place this into Illustrator.
Save As a v1.4 PDF.
Open this in Acrobat.
You will see the image is sliced.
I would say if you produce 2 or 3 different sized images at least one of them will slice with the slice masks apart.
The two fixes I've found are to either save out of Illustrator as an EPS or save the original image out of photoshop as a pdf.

Re: Screen Artifact
Hi all,
Thanks for your respond. We have updated our RIP to the latest version but the "white line" still appear on our plates. We used hot folder for most of our job in our workflow. Below are some of the workaround that we can think of for the moment. Input & advice from all are needed.
-Turn off "Anti Aliasing" (if available)
-Placed the PDF into Indesign (or other software) than make PostScript out from it.
-Adjust RIP setting to a higher resolution.
-Save Eps from PDF than RIP it.
For some of the cases, part of the "white line" are not visual on screen but it do appear on the plates. My thought for the moment is the PDF get misinterpreted when RIP, just like it reporting "Missing Fonts".
Again, input & advice from all party are appreciated
Thanks & Regards,
Jeno
