Screen goes black&white on startup

Default Screen goes black&white on startup

I installed InDesign 2.0 on a Pentium II, 300 Mhz, 192MB RAM machine.
After installation everything works fine, but after a restart the screen goes black and white, even though the programme is not 'loaded'.

Uninstalling sorts the problem out, reinstalling brings it back exactly as above. I also have CorelDraw 12 installed.

    Thanks for any help!

That machine spec is only just above the minimum required for InDesign to
run. Whether that's what's killing your colour I don't know. But I would
guess that even if you got your colour back you would be a bit disappointed
    with performance.

That machine is also specified circa late 1987, early 1988. We are six years later.
What OS is this machine running?

Well, my mistake. I was actually refering to 1997-1998 but slipped on the keyboard. LOL
Back in 1988 you would be king of the world to have such a machine. I had a 80386 at 30Mhz with 48Mb RAM and 40MB HDD running CCPM-86 <grn>

Thanks for the comments. InDesign 2.0 also runs on a Pentium 4 in another office, without any problems. So the specs could be a problem, although not according to Adobe own 'system requirements'.

The Pentium II is 'only' about 5 years old, but of course that's an age nowadays. For intensive graphics work, some beefy machine would be recommended.

But still, this fault is caused by a driver, since the programme works fine when it is installed, and only has a problem after a restart.

Btw, the OS is Windows 2000 Professional.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

Then, what graphic adapter (aka video) card does this ancient machine use? Maybe the problem is with the card's driver.

An STB Velocity (ha!) 128 card. Ancient indeed.

So what is the case with the video driver? Is it updated?

    George

PS: Looking at their site I see: STB VELOCITY 128 8MB 2x-AGP/NTSC Riva ZX.
This means a 8Mb RAM card that can't support True Color at any reasonable resolution for ID
