    Default Search Algorthms

Can anyone point in the direction of materials in which developing a search
algorithm is discussed. I don't want anything too complex. It is a 4 table
hierarchy of categories/products pulled from an SQL server so full text
indexing may be an option. I am not 100% on what tables will be searched the
most and with what criteria. I was really looking for some background
reading so I have some good ideas early on when I get more detailed
    information from the client.
