The way pages are getting indexed / spidered have changed recently, so a bit
of reading may not go astray before you start.
Good places to start:

I do not recommend software to do this for you - you should submit your site
The first place you should submit to would be www.dmoz.com Pick a relevant
locality and category and submit your site. You can submit to a few
categories, but don't over do it or you will get banned for spamming.
Google and other SEs feed off google, so make sure you submit your
Then it doesn't hurt to submit to google itself -
The above is all done manually by yourself, however, you can also pay for a
listing, but this doesn't guarantee you a very high ranking. Making sure
you have "spider food" content on your pages, you can still get indexed by
doing it the free way
Also have a read about the way incoming and outgoing links will help with
the placement of your site in SE's.
Hope some of this helps.

If I understand you correctly, you should consider using a database
table to hold things to be searched (web site areas? HTML pages?
URLs?) and creating indices on the search keys (keywords, names,
areas, etc.). Then, you can write a very simple Class:BI script to
do on-the-fly searching without using any intermediate data files.
The key thing is that you have to update the database table when web
site data is updated. You can do this with scheduled updates, or by
triggering an update every time the web site pages are modified.
I am assuming here that you want to write your own search, and are
not interested in any of the existing solutions; if that's not true
then definitely look at the free searching software out there before
you write your own. This is a problem that may be easily solved for
you without writing custom code.
I am currently constructing a small search facility in perl for a website i
am creating, and have become quite confused on a couple of things.
the datafile will be something like below;
My main confusion is when a user does a search and i wish to display the
results to the user, i take it that i need to create a temporary page, so
how do i create a temporary page to display the results in (when creating
the temporary page how do i ensure that another user searching doesn't get
the same temporary file as another user that is currently searching) and
clear it up when the user closes his browser or leaves the site?
Hope i explained my self well enough

I'd like to be able to go to a search engine and search for my site by
keywords like Mankato, Wedding, Cakes, Bakery, Professional, License...
But when I go there now it doesn't bring anything up. I've gone to Google.com
and added my site to their database but I'd like to be able to go to any search
engine and find my site is their any way I can do that?
Here's My Site addy:
http://www.mankato Wedding cakes.com
I've tried to post my code up here but it's to big so I can't do that.
Your site has not even been indexed by any search engines yet. It typically
takes up to 3 months or so for your site to even be pd and picked up by the
search engines. You can check your status by going to marketleap.com and going
to search engine saturation to check and see how many pages are being indexed
by the se's. Be patient. It doesn't happen overnight. It took me almost 6
months to even get listed and then took me another 3-6 months to get ranked
with good keywords.
