Security Images
I have a form which users can submit and i'm recieving some spammed responses.
So i want a security image to prevent fake sign-ups and.. spam.
Is it possible in coldfusion to create security images? or something similar /

Re: Security Images
A simple way to do this (once you've created the images in PhotoShop/Draw/etc.
- that topic is better served in a graphics forum) is to create a table with a
field for the image name and a field for the displayed value. Use a randomize
query to get one of the images for your validation page. Store the image name
in a hidden field on the validation page. Include a form field for the user to
enter what value they see in the image. In the form action, query the table
for both the image name and the submitted perceived value. Record returned?
Good to go. No records returned? No dice.
Perhaps there's some automated method of creating these validation images on
the fly, but I'm not versed.

Do be aware that this does completely contravene web accessability standards and will cause lots of problems for users who have poor vision.

Re: Security Images
I built a purely CFC based component for building Captcha's - uses Java
AWT libraries (available on all ColdFusion MX 6/7 servers and doesn't
require ANY special loading on the server.
It's part of a simple blog application I wrote.
Java(ish)docs for the app are here:

look at clio.util.Captcha
Code's at the bottom, just cut and paste into a CFC.
