    Default security update failed. Why?

Whenever adobe acrobat professional says I need to update, I always get this message:
"The patch failed because the application has been modified since it was originally installed (for example, plug-ins may have been disabled). Please go to the adobe support website for more information regarding how to re-enable disabled components prior to installing the patch. Or, you can install and reinstall the application, and then reinstall the patch."

I can't find the "re-enable components" they are talking about in adobe. Nor do i know what they are talking about. Can someone please help?

    Default security update failed. Why?

The easiest thing to do is to re-install the application as suggested.

    Hey Kirsten,

I have this same problem, I have managed to install the 8.1.2 update, but when I try to install the 8.1.2 security update then it won't do it, its says "the patch failed because the application has been modified etc.."

    I am on OS X 10.5.5

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Andy.

Are you using Acrobat with CS3? If so, which version of CS3 (Master Collection, Design Standard, etc)? Also, do you know if you have a Retail or Volume license number? Did you install anything as a standard (non-admin) user? Strange that some users are able to update and others are not...I wonder why?
