Security - Want to allow Snapshot, but not copy

Posted: 10-20-2008, 12:17 PM
Hello,

I'm using Acrobat 9 Professional. Is it possible to allow Acrobat Reader users to use the Snapshot tool, but not the copy feature.

I don't want users of Acrobat Reader to be able to copy and paste text into their own file, and then change the text, but it would be okay if they copied and pasted an image of some text (use the Snapshot Tool)

Thank you for your help.

Yes, use the SECURITY feature inside Acrobat 9 Professional ...
configure the PERMISSIONS category ..

Thank you Jon.

I did go to the PERMISSIONS category, but I can see nothing for this. Yes, I can check/uncheck "Enable copy....," but that does not get me what I want.

Any other ideas?

What you see in security is pretty much all of your options.

Hi Jon,

There is a slight difference. When you copy and past text -- using the selection too -- users can then edit that text.

However, when you use the Snapshot Tool and then past, you paste an image. As a result, users cannot edit the pasted text.

See my point now?

If there is anything to be gained by editing, then the text is worth
retyping. It isn't a completely lost art-

From your last post, it looks like that is EXACTLY what you want.

There is a slight difference. When you copy and past text -- using the

Yes. And to stop that, don't choose "enable copying of text, images and other content"

Well, that's what you wanted ... to stop them copying .. but do you mean
freezing their screen or something?

The copying terminology stops them from using the selection tool to
highlight text/images and copying to the clipboard ..

It's also a bit of a small hurdle too. If any user has any kind other screenshot application like Grab and some OCR tools available then it renders the attempt moot.
