    Default <select> key events

    Is it possible to disable the standard keyboard input behavior for a
    <select> object, i.e. where typing a key causes it to select the first
    option that starts with that letter (assuming it has focus)? I'm writing a
    more advanced keyboard navigation function and the default behavior is
    interfering with my program behavior. Also, are key events widely supported
    for <select>? Some (old) documentation I have indicates <select> doesn't
    even recognize key events but IE 6 definitely does. I'm just wondering how
    many other browsers do.

    Default Re: <select> key events

    Try somethiong like..

    <select onkeypress="event.returnValue=false;">
    ...
    </select>

    If you want to mantain the selection by the arrows (up and down), you'll need to specy it in the
    code. If you don't know how to do it, post another message and I'll answer.
