Default Selected Text - highlight color is invisible

I'm having some trouble with Illustrator 10 .. the document in question has a white background and black text. Normally when I select text with the text tool, the area selected is indicated by a black highlight, within which the selected text is reversed to white. Currently when I select text there is no change.. the text remains black and the boundaries of the selected area are invisible. I can't figure out if there's a way to change the selected text highlight color.. I tried doing it at the system level but that didn't change anything. Any suggestions? This seems to only be affecting one document.

Can you move the text? Is it locked perhaps? If not try copying and pasting into a new document.

It's not locked, and I can edit it, I just can't see what's selected. I finally did just copy and paste everything into a new document and that seemed to fix it. Maybe there was something in the text (copied from a powerpoint file) that was causing the problem?

I don't know, I couldn't reproduce it here. But I'm using AI9 on my PC right now. I can try tomorrow with AI10.

Figured it out.. in almost every other application I use, command-h hides the application, but in Illustrator it's "Hide Edges" under the View menu.
