Re: Selection Object tool does not work
I believe you want the Touchup Object tool for this on the Advanced Editing menu.
What I'd like to know is what the Select Object tool IS now used for... would one of you enlighten me?
Thanks.

Re: Selection Object tool does not work
Ah. Thanks, Jon. But it's NOT for "objects" created in authoring programs, specifically, images and vector shapes. Do I have this right?

Re: Selection Object tool does not work
Yes, so the tool is now used for more "native" Acrobat objects (if I can use that word). Thanks again, Jon.

Well - not really since any object that can be altered by the TOUCHUP
OBJECT TOOL is native also.
You might describe the objects that can be selected with the SELECT TOOL
as ones on a separate layer?

Re: Selection Object tool does not work
But by layer, do you mean the user accessible layers that one can see and manipulate in the Layers Panel? Or do you mean by layer objects metaphorically "above" the visible, "base" content? (Jeez, I'm using terms here that I feel pretty wobbly about.)
(My ignorance about this comes in part from never having used fields, comments, signatures, and so forth. I use Acrobat Pro narrowly... to make commercial artwork into PDFs for print production.)

Yes - to clarify for yourself why not just draw a couple of form fields
and links onto a page and the use the SELECT OBJECT TOOL - it will
become much clearer then ....
I understand your position - I started in print production with PDF also ...
Cheers!

Did the experiment as you advised. Yes, now infinitely clearer. I thank you.

Re: Selection Object tool does not work
Thanks Doug and Jon. I guess it pays to look through the complete menu. I saw the Touchup Text tool but not the Touchup Object tool. Those were the names used in past versions of Acrobat, but I guess I transposed them into Select Text and Select Object. It pays to pay attention.
Thanks again,
Van
