Default Selection outlines on InDesign CS files problem

I have a client who when opening files from PageMaker 7 in InDesign had all objects in the file - text or graphics - appear with selection outlines whether the objects are selected or not.

These outlines are the colour of the layer the object is on and the colour can be changed in the layers palette just like normal selection outlines although the have no resizing handles (when deselected).

I asked my client to email me the offending file but not only have I been unable to solve the problem but now all new files I create in InDesign have these outlines on them as well.

They do not print nor in any other way seem to effect the editability of the file and are not visible in preview mode but they are very annoying.

Does anyone know why this is happening and if there is some way I can 'turn them off'.

I am working on Windows 2000.

Peggy, I appreciate everyone that realizes of the benefits of newsgroups,
but please only quote the important parts of the messages. It is awful to
follow the thread of you have to search for the answers, not to mention what
