Selection underscore color not showing URGENT

I am working on a document in Illustrator 10 and have been saving my work all along. I have been noticing hesitation in my tool selections and selections of objects at times on the different layers. Now I do not have the colored underscore for an object on the layer, the selector tool will pick the object but the colored underscore does not show Y???? I re saved document naming it different but that didn't seem to help. My other documents will open and can pick different objects w/o this problem... as a matter of fact I can unlock the layers and do a select all and the different underscore colors show in the layers pallet but are non existent at least to my eye on screen... what can I do. PLEASE PLESE Help

I'm not exactly sure I understand what do you mean by "color underscore", but I suppose you're referring to the paths' contours that are shown on the screen when the object is selected. If the contours aren't showing, try View>Show Edges or hit Ctrl-H.
