Sendmail and Named - Sun Solaris

Hi, We are sending a message from a UPS with an IP Address as the domain - 102.20.10 This message is sent to an internal distribution list - DL-UPS.Message. The distribution list also has another distribution list within it as well as an external site. The problem seems that the external site cannot resolve the IP address being sent. Would it be feasible to put an entry in the /var/named/zone file like this. UPS IN A 190.102.20.10 And therefore the IP address will resolve to UPS? O/S: Solaris 2.6 Sendmail: 8.12.8 Thank you in advance. Craig....

    Default Sendmail and Named

    Hi,

We are sending a message from a UPS with an IP Address as the domain -
    102.20.10

This message is sent to an internal distribution list - DL-UPS.Message. The
    distribution list also has
another distribution list within it as well as an external site.

The problem seems that the external site cannot resolve the IP address being
    sent.

Would it be feasible to put an entry in the /var/named/zone file like this.
    UPS IN A 190.102.20.10

And therefore the IP address will resolve to UPS?

    O/S: Solaris 2.6
    Sendmail: 8.12.8

    Thank you in advance.
    Craig.

Nope. You need an inverse lookup zone file with an entry such as this:

    10.20.102.190.in-addr.arpa. IN PTR UPS.your.domain.

The correct syntax for an email address containing an IP rather than a
    hostname is: UPS.Message[190.102.20.10].

You only need that if you want to be able to send mail to
    yourdomain.
