Serious Bug in Acrobat6
I can't figure this out to save my life...
I've File A and File B, C, D, etc- File A has a bunch of buttons on it that take you to the other files-- B, C, D, whatever. The B, C, D files each have a button on them that is supposed to take you back to File A.
I can get from File A (an index to the other files) OK. But... when I click on the return buttons in Files B, C, or D, the program crashes. Quits. Gone. Happens with Acro6Pro or Reader6. Happens on a Mac or a PC.
I have all these files running in Full Screen mode- its a CD presentation. When I'm not in Full Screen, I don't seem to have the problem.
I've tried who knows how many ways of getting back and forth... Open File, Open a Page in Another Document, Previous View, Previous Document- all kinds of combinations and the result is always the same.
The PDFs were generated from InD3.
Its driving me nuts (and my client too). Acrobat 6 is sort of like an underachieving child-- full of potential, but never seems to amount to much.

Is it possible to uninstall Acrobat6 Pro and install Acrobat5
Hi there, I work in different projects here in our company. For one of them, I definately need Acrobat5 (and Distiller5). For a new project I... -

Re: Serious Bug in Acrobat6
I found it.
In Doc Properties, under Initial View- there are three check boxes in a group: Resize Page to Initial View, Center Window on Screen, Open in Full Screen mode.
Checking all three causes the bomb.
Uncheck the first two and leave the third one on, and the problem goes away.

Re: Serious Bug in Acrobat6
Eric, thanks for coming back with the answer for this one. it sounds like your test was thorough.
I could see how the app would be confused with the first 2 settings under the fullscreen mode but you would think it would deal with it more gracefully.
I am going to try and reproduce this issue.

BTW, I think Acrobat is more like a beloved, drunken uncle. You love to see him at holidays but never know what level of embarrasment you will endure.

Tried the three checked, there was no bomb. A/6.0.1 OS/X.2.8. Interesting?

Re: Serious Bug in Acrobat6
Eric, I just set out to try and make this experiement but relized I did not know how you were navigating between each doc. Are you using scripts, links, buttons...?

Re: Serious Bug in Acrobat6
to get from A to B I used buttons with either "Open File" or "Go to a page in another document" actions. To get from B to A- which is when the bomb occurred- I used "Go To Previous Document" or "Go To Previous View". The result was always the same regardless of which combination of actions I used.

Re: Serious Bug in Acrobat6
With all three selected there is no bomb unless you have selected
Acrobat=>Preferences...=>General=>Open cross-document links in same window
Looks like Full Screen mode doesn't navigate the view stack correctly if it has resized the document.
There is no need to have the top two on so it's an obscure type of bug as it's not a normal combination.

Agreed. Its not a show-stopper. But to the unwitting or unknowing it can cost a couple of days production- like it did to me. You're right, there is no need to have the top two on, but when the menu is up in front of you, it looks like a good idea to turn on all three. Turns out otherwise.
And that's why Acrobat is the underachieving child- full of promise and potential but prone to cause disappointment and frustration. Acrobat6 seems to be a never-ending string of surprises like this one.
Nonetheless... we press ahead.
