Serious Extension Manager problems!
DW MX 6.1
Extension Manager 1.5
OS X 10.1.5
Extension manager had been working just fine up till a few months ago. It
worked with DW 4 when I was using that, it worked with MX after I upgraded,
and IT worked after I implemented the 6.1 updater patch (so up until now it
had been working for about 3 years).
I tried to open it to install an extension for DW and it crashed. I tried a
couple more times with he same result. Then I:
- I trashed the EM prefs. Same result.
- trashed the DW Prefs. Same result.
- trahsed both of them at the same time. Same result.
- Reinstalled EM. Same result.
- Completely removed EM and reinstalled. Same result.
I then did some research and found some techdocs regarding what appeared to
be the issue. I tried removing the extension manually by putting them in a
folder called hidden. That didnąt work either.
I then proceeded to completely remove DWMX from my system using the
instructions from Macromedia. Still the same thing.
I then removed extension manager completely again and reinstalled it. This
time without DWMX installed it worked... Kinda. The window came up and it
showed DW4's extensions list. I clicked the application drop down and it
showed Fireworks and Flash. I then went back to DW4 an tried to uninstall an
extension... CRASH. I tried to open EM again and it crashed like before.
Tried a couple more times with the same result.
I then proceeded to remove DW4, then extension manager, then reinstalled EM.
It worked again showing Fireworks and Flash as installed with no extensions
installed.
Now I went to install DWMX 6 again. I do that and open EM. It doesn't show
DWMX as installed! I researched on MM site and found tech docs relating to
this. I proceeded to follow those instructions.
- double clicked on an MXP to install it (making sure it was approved for
DWMX6) I got the message that DW 4 or higher wasnąt installed.
- Tried to use the Manage Extensions command... Em starts to open and
crashes.
I then close DWMX and try to open EM again... It crashes like before.
Apparently there is something about DW it doesn't like no matter what I do.
Ive tried everything I can think of... Any Ideas?

DW6 isn't being found because you reinstalled the EM and then DW6 (which
should have installed the EM also). Try reinstalling the EM now and DW6
should be found.

have DW open or try to "Manage Extensions" EM dosent crash now.
I noticed you said EM is installed at the timw of DWMX. With that in mind I
removed them both completely again and Installed DWMX again. I then tried to
Manage extensions - thinking maybe it was because I was installing extension
manager multiple times and corrupting something. I got the same error (exact
same output to crash log) again and the exact same behavior, ie. As long as
DWMX isnt open EM works, but doesnt find DW. The second I try to interact
with DW in anway, EM crashes.
Any other ideas?

Re: Serious Extension Manager problems!
Most vendors don't support pre-Jaguar Mac OS (10.2). I would highly suggest
biting the bullet and getting a copy of Jaguar or Tiger or Panther...
no idea if this helps your prob, but the very least it will do is speed your
machine up (WAY up) and give you some nice features, such as better PDF
support, faster rendering and lots more. Well worth the $.
Also, if you haven't run any disk utilities I would try that. Its possible
your HD directory is damaged (although this is only an outside chance).
good luck

I would need to upgrade to OSX 10.2.x... Something I currently am not able
to do.
However... I msut say I NEVER had any problem with EM until recently, and I
havent been able to actually install any new extensions recently so the
problem is not a Compatability issue between extensions/dwmx/em1.5
On a side note I did mnage a work around. I manually installed the
extensions I needed by installing them on my machine at work and then
copying over the appropriate folders from my Configuration there to my
Configuration at home. So they are up and running.
Still havent gotten EM to work though.
Thanx!
