Default Server Settings > Mail

I am using a known good SMTP server which is successfully relaying messages
from other servers such as a Windows 2000 server with ColdfusionMX 7 on it, as
well as a Novell server.

I have a Windows 2003 Server with ColdfusionMX 7. The settings are simple,
name.domain.xxx and port 25. I can ping and resolve the hostname from the 2003
server so as far as communications go that is working. Is there anything else
I have to 'activate' on the 2003 box to allow it to successfully connect to the
SMTP server like my Windows 2000 box can??

Here are some lines from the mail.log file.

I have a similar issue. The mail server is verifed properly, and mail is being
spooled to the Spool folder, however it is not being sent and thus stays in the
spool folder.

The error logs look like this:

If you are running virus software you should check and make sure port 25 is not
being blocked to "Prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail", as I found
mine was. Seems an update to my virus software suddenly started causing this
problem. You can remove the rule to block that port, or exclude certain
processes so they are not affected by that blocking rule...which is how I found
this thread, I'm looking for the process that I need to allow.

Hope that helps someone...

Found the answer.

McAfee VirusScan's latest stuff turns off port 25 outbound on your server.

Some notes by user, Swift, in this thread
(http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=2&threa
did=1083064&highlight_key=y&keyword1=exe) are paraphrased below.

Now, don't just go and turn off your virus scan. What you need to do is allow
the coldfusion services to send mail out port 25. I believe they are jrun.exe
and jusched.exe. Then you can send mail from templates run from a scheduled
task as well as from templates run from a user on your website.

If you have the ePolicy Orchestrator, then you will have to change your
settings on the ePO server. It's not too hard to figure out where to make the
changes. It's in the Access Control section, and don't forget to change the
settings for the correct computer type (Server or workstation). Also, don't
forget to uncheck the inherit checkbox to allow you to make changes for your
server.

Hi All,

Sorry its taken me so long to reply back to this thread. Been gone from the
forums for a long time since I wasnt developing. I started this thread awhile
back and a co-worker suggested that this was the problem also, but I couldnt
find out exactly where the problem was and where to turn it off. We are using
the McAfee ePO Orchestrator product which maintains the virus scan policies on
our servers and workstations.

So no matter what changes I made to the server, they were always replaced with
the policy from the ePO server. Once I figured out where to make the change to
allow port 25 to be unblocked by the software, it started working l ike a charm!

This was driving me crazy because I thought port 25 was being blocked by the
OS itself or there was something 'locked down' in IIS6 or something.

I just wanted to clarify for everyone in the future that visits here that this
was the solution to fix the problem for me. Thanks.
