Default Setting the threshold of the system monitor?

I am running Server 2003 and I am trying to set the
threshold monitor for an alert on the system monitor.

What numbers do I use? Is it a percentage?

It keeps prompting me for a number from 0 - 1.79769e+308.
I do not know what this second number is? I would
    appreciate any insite.

    Regards,

The values you enter depend on the specific counter you have selected.
The name of the counter itself implies what the value should be. For
example, % Processor Time would require you to enter a number that will
be treated as percentage (so you can't enter a number > 100), while
Pages/sec would require that you enter a whole positive number. The
error you get gives you the acceptable range of numbers, in this case
from 0 to 1.79769 multiplied by 10 to the 308th degree.
