Default Setting up databases in MX

I have installed MX 6.1 and am running into problems connecting to
databases. I have all necessary information such as passwords and
server name/database names but always seem to get an error of:

Connection verification failed for data source: edcom
    []java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error
    establishing socket. Connection refused: connect
The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer
JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket. Connection refused: connect

I know many others in this group have this problem, but I cannot figure
out how to fix it. I have uninstalled it and re-installed it with
nortons off and it didn't work. Any hints out there that can help?
Also, its a SQL 2000 server I believe.

I have figured out the problem. My port on the sql server was not set
to the "normal" 1433. Therefore I switched what port I was accessing in
cold fusion and all works now.
