Setting up mail (Fetchmail and Postfix) - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

Hello, all, I was using fetchmail to fetch my mail until a few days ago when I installed Mdk 9.2... The problem is, that it was working so well, that I never had to look at it and so forgot how I'd exactly set things up. Well, fetchmail is still OK, since the fetchmailrc file is in a user's home directory, and I didn't reformat that filesystem. But I lost any postfix configuration, /etc/resolv.conf, whatever else made things work :-( So I'm looking for help, now. Here's what happens when I run fetchmail -L /tmp/fetchmail_log --showdots -v fetchmail: 6.2.4 querying ...

Default Setting up mail (Fetchmail and Postfix)

    Hello, all,

I was using fetchmail to fetch my mail until a few days ago when I
    installed Mdk 9.2...

The problem is, that it was working so well, that I never had to look at
it and so forgot how I'd exactly set things up.

Well, fetchmail is still OK, since the fetchmailrc file is in a user's
home directory, and I didn't reformat that filesystem.

But I lost any postfix configuration, /etc/resolv.conf, whatever else made
    things work :-(

So I'm looking for help, now.

Here's what happens when I run
    fetchmail -L /tmp/fetchmail_log --showdots -v

So, it looks tomy inexpert eye, that fethcmail is trying to do what it is
supposed to do, but cannot hand off the first message it retrieves to the
postfix program... Is this right? And if so, what can I do to start
    putting things right?

A bit of further info, in the hope that someone (Bill Unruh? you helped me
out a couple of years ago with some very pertinent information...) might
    help.

I seem to have some trouble with the alias database for postfix; when I
look in /var/log/syslog I see things like:

    Jan 27 23:41:50 sheaf postfix/master[3167]: warning: process /usr/lib/postfix/local pid 8637 exit status 1
    Jan 27 23:41:50 sheaf postfix/master[3167]: warning: /usr/lib/postfix/local: bad command startup -- throttling
Jan 27 23:42:50 sheaf postfix/local[8638]: warning: My hostname lcbv3-1-96 is not a fully qualified name - set myhostname or mydomain in /etc/postfix/main.cf
Jan 27 23:42:50 sheaf postfix/local[8638]: fatal: open database /var/lib/mailman/data/aliases.db: Bad file descriptor
    Jan 27 23:42:51 sheaf postfix/master[3167]: warning: process /usr/lib/postfix/local pid 8638 exit status 1
    Jan 27 23:42:51 sheaf postfix/master[3167]: warning: /usr/lib/postfix/local: bad command startup -- throttling

Now, the stuff about "hostname lcbv3-1-96" I think I can figure out... But
this alias database has me stumped. I've been trying to build it tonight,
but can't get it right. I think I need to use this:
    postalias -v hash:/var/lib/mailman/data/aliases
to rebuild the /var/lib/mailman/data/aliases file, but I get the response:
postalias: fatal: open /var/lib/mailman/data/aliases: No such file or directory

    Ideas?

Check to see if the /var/lib/mailman/data/aliases file is present. From
the error message, I doubt it is. If not, create it and try again.
