Shift + 3 = # ???
Hi
InDesighCS
WindowsXP
We're finding that with some files, when pressing shift and the relevant key to get a symbol, we're getting something totally different. For example...
Shift + 3 is # instead of £
Shift + 2 is @ instead of "
Shift + # is / instead of ~
This only happens on some files, and doesn't happen in Outlook.
Has anybody else had this?
Thanks
Wayne

Re: Shift + 3 = # ???
What you're getting is indicative of a U.S. English keyboard layout. Is
the file set to use US English?

Re: Shift + 3 = # ???
Sounds like you have your keyboard layout set to American instead of British.
But I have no idea how you go about changing that.

Re: Shift + 3 = # ???
Hi
Thanks for your replies...
How do I go about changing the layout? Also as this isn't happening in Outlook, would it make it an InDesign issue?

Re: Shift + 3 = # ???
Not sure how you would change it but I would check in the Windows control panel or InDesign Preferences. Most likely this is going to be in the control panel under Keyboard or Regional and Language Options.
~Good luck

Re: Shift + 3 = # ???
Hi
Checked Regional and Language options, and everything is selected as English (UK).
I will keep testing, but if anyone else has any ideas, please let me know.
Thanks

Re: Shift + 3 = # ???
It sounds like you've selected a English (United States) keyboard for your InDesign.
I don't know anything about XP, but in Win2000 you switch between installed keyboard local inputs by left-clicking the indicator (e.g. EN) minimized to the right in the Taskbar. Before selecting English (United Kingdom) you have to be inside InDesign. If there's no EN (United Kingdom) to choose, first add it in Control Panel/Keyboard.

Re: Shift + 3 = # ???
Found the problem. By pressing Alt (the left one) and Shift when in InDesign, you can switch between UK and US keyboard setup, which has explained why it only happened on some pages.
Thanks for your responces.
