I should have stated, I am using Mac OSX Panther 10.3.2, dual 1250 G4 MDD, 1725mb ram
can anyone else reproduce this on a similar system:
1. create a new white canvas
2. select the paint tool and a contrasting colour
3. click once to create a single painted dot
4. hold "shift" and click somewhere else on the canvas (do not drag, just click once)
Expected outcome: a line should be produced between the two clicks
my actual outcome: only another single dot is produced?
the PS CS help files state that this should work ok?,

You have spacing turned off for your current brush, I'll bet.
(that hasn't changed)

Rob, reset your brush (choose Reset Tool) and try again. With a mouse this all works fine, with a tablet I had to turn off the pressure-sensitive dynamics to get this to work satisfactorily.

Success, It seems that when I loaded "basic brushes" the spacing was set to "off" by default!, thanks Chris
