shockwave 10 player/plugin?
Ok from Director MX 2004 I can make movies that are shockwave version 8.5 or version 10.
The only plugin I can download from this site is 8.5. How do I get the version 10 player?

Re: shockwave 10 player/plugin?
You beat me to the post. If I use new features in Director MX 2004 (like
sprite names) it tells me I need to publish for Shockwave 10, but Shockwave 10
seems nowhere to be found. I asked Macromedia when/where it might be
available, but so far have gotten only the usual non-answers. I think they got
the cart before the horse and are avoiding the issue.

Re: shockwave 10 player/plugin?
Every single time I play the projector or a shockwave published from Director
MX 2004 it asks me for the plugin to be installed.
I have installed it 30 times and I can't figure out why it keeps asking. Do
you get this problem also??? Is there anyone on here from Macromedia???

Re: shockwave 10 player/plugin?
I've only tried to publish one MX2004 movie to Shockwave so far and when I told
it to publish to Shockwave 8.5 (in publish options) it told me I needed
Shockwave 10. I have not yet changed the sprite names back to channel numbers
to see if I could publish to 8.5 because I was waiting for a meaningful answer
from Macromedia. From what you say I would probably be wasting my time.

Hi Glen and others,
The Shockwave 10 Player is in public beta right now. You can use it for
testing your new content. It will be final soon (sorry, Macromedia does
not pre-announce dates).
Shockwave Player Public Beta.

If you are going to publish as Shockwave v8.5, then you must make sure
that you aren't using any of the new features or it will ask for the new
Player.

Re: shockwave 10 player/plugin?
As a followup - I changed all sprite name usages back to score channel numbers
and even though it now lets me select Shockwave 8.5 in the publish settings, it
still will not run with the Shockwave 8.5 player. So it seems Macromedia
screwed up with this MX2004 release. When I pointed out to them that I had
bought and upgraded to Director MX 2004 and now had no player for movies
published to Shockwave, they never got around to getting back to me. It seems
to me that the least they could do in the way of customer relations is give
Director MX 2004 purchasers an idea of when a Shockwave player should be
available.

Re: shockwave 10 player/plugin?
Further update. As I said, I can not publish to Shockwave 8.5, but I found
that I could create a Shockwave file that will play in IE with the Shockwave
8.5 player.
I created it with the XTRAS -> Update Movies menu selection. Make sure you
are not using any of the MX 2004 new features like sprite names or the _movie.

Re: shockwave 10 player/plugin?
hey well i dont have no mx studio or nothin but i have shockwave downloaded
from the macromedia site and im sure its shockwave 8.5 so anyways i was using
regedit to get rid of all of aol's registry entries when i find under local
user under software under macromedia a key called shockwave 8 (understandable)
and then anotherone called shockwave 10. shockwave 8 had many keys in it
obviously being all the settings such as Auto Update and the age specified.
Shockwave 10 only has 2 folders under it both of which makie no sense to me. I
dont know how i got shockwave 10 either so yeah. Just my 2 cents

Re: shockwave 10 player/plugin?
update - i found that shockwave 10 is a beta version that macromedia is
releasing also known as shockwave player beta. its supposed to be highly
compatible with 8. anyways this is the download site
http://www.macromedia.com/software/shockwaveplayer/beta/ so those of you who
need it try it out hopefully that will help. and reply telling me if its
worthwhile of a download (since im still having that 3d groove problem)

Re: shockwave 10 player/plugin?
Thanks for pointing out the Shockwave beta. I guess these old eyes missed the
link before, but I wonder why Macromedia did not mention such when I asked them
about Shockwave 10?
I did download it and I can now publish to Shockwave 10 from Director MX 2004
and successfully play the result in IE 6.
This first Shockwave 10 movie did not include any 3D though, so my experience
may not be enough for you.
Thanks again

Re: shockwave 10 player/plugin?
When I try to install the Shockwave 10 player beta, my browsers all display
errors, "canot locate plugin etc." I have to unistall and then reinstall v8.
But with version 8 my Director MX 2004 projects do not play correctly in the
browser. All exitFrame scripts are ignored and the movie just loops through
the timeline. Also, all flash buttons will not link to anything. The
rollovers work fine but there is no jump upon clicking.
Any help on these issues?

Re: shockwave 10 player/plugin?
Sounds like the problems I saw when the published movie was trying to download
the Shockwave 10 player and kept looping. The "official" Shockwave download
that is linked to is 8.5, so you need to follow the link mentioned above to the
beta vaerion (which is 10.0) and download and install from there.
Beyond that, I noticed that the problems with the beta seem to be mostly Mac
associated (see the release notes). With the beta version they have a problem
reporting screen and (say) they are eager to hear about any problems
encountered with the beta. I have not had any problems with the beta so I
don't know how they are at responding.
