Shockwave Demo - Macromedia Director 3D

Hi everyone, I've been beavering away for a while on a short demo designed to wow clients over to the idea of using shockwave. Any feedback is appreciated, specifically on usability, and how it performs on you machine. http://dev.unwrong.com/snowglobe/dswmedia/ Cheers Jon www.unwrong.com...

Absolutely stunning Demo!

Thought you were using emitters there for a moment, but clearly far cooler
than that ;)

Multiplanes that point at the camera with 2 layer textures and
textureTransform scrolling maybe?

Runs perfectly on P4 2.4Ghz 1Gig nVidia Quadro4 in hardware mode.

Obviously software mode is a bit crippled.

Hey, as a suggestion, why not put some gentle wind + tree rustle loop effect
in, and a clock chime and owl hoot for some audio atmosphere? :)

Cheers

this demo is so cool!
i liked the way you can shake the glass ball

and when you get close to the little home inside, its amazing, the details...
good work!

*on high quality, ran perfectly fine with:
P4 2.0Ghz
1G RAM
ge force FX 5200

Thanks for the replies. Good to hear it's running well (although 2Ghz+ machines
I'm not suprised :) )

Richard, you're spot on with the technique used for the particles. Director's
built in particle systems are fairly limited in what they can do, and pointing
a billboard at the camera isn't too expensive so . . .

We're planning on getting some SFX in there - chimes for the clock when it
hits the hour etc as it all feels a bit isolated at present.

Very nice! I just tested it on my POS computer (Pentium 3, 800 mhz, 256
MB RAM) and it looked really good. A little choppy, but far, far better
than I expected. Good work!

Blimey, viewable on 800Mhz?! Good to hear.

I've been getting reports of problems with Win200Pro + IE or Firefox. If
anybody else is having this problem, any extra info would be much appreciated.

Can't be unwrong, it's unreal.
Well done !

p.s.
Smooth movement on P4/3.2GHz & Radeon X800.
Only few FPS on Celeron 1GHz & GF4MX440.
This is a common problem for many ShockWave developers: bad performances on
entry-level machines.
You have to optimize the code and / or the geometry.

keep up the good work
