Shockwave installer closes poup
Hello,
I'am running my Shockwave objects within browser popups (without toulbar, adressbar and statusbar); which the user can start by clicking a link or thumbnail located on a normal page within the site.
This runs fine but; I have a problem for first time Shockwave users. As they reach the site and open the popup; the browser automatically checks for Shockwave (as usual) if not present it will be installed.
During the installation process the Shockwave installer closes all browser windows and completes the install.
Then it starts 2 browser windows;
- 1 with information on Shockwave
- 1 with my Shockwave object
My question/problem is that the user;
- loses my main site (this browser is closed)
- gets a new full browser window; with my shockwave object
Is there a way to restart my main site and automatically open the popup containing the Shockwave object; so that the users won't notice any difference and will be able to go to the site again after they close the Shockwave window.
Thanks in advance for your response!
Best regards, Joost

restart, but I don't know of browsers that offer a "restart and go here"
ability, sorry.

Re: Shockwave installer closes poup
Is there a way to prevent the Shockwave installer from closing browser windows; which is very user unfriendly? I am looking for a script/code for the Shockwave installer to act the same way as the Flash installer (which leaves your browser windows untouched).
I take it more people have come across this problem to help first time Shockwave users find their way back to your site after the installation process...

Re: Shockwave installer closes poup
Browsers vary in what they require... some call install new plugins
on-the-fly, but in some situations they require closes or restarts.

Re: Shockwave installer closes poup
can't you put a script in the first frames of the shockwave movie that checks if your netpage is open and if not opens it and puts your film in the foreground again after it is loaded?
i don't know the exact lingo for this, but that should be possible, i think.
and if you can't easily check, whether the netpage is open, you can open it anyhow - then when there was no new install, it is opened twice, which is not too bad.
best, Jan
