Shockwave Installer Error
I'm running Vista Ultimate x64. I've tried installing on both IE7 & FF. I keep
getting an error when trying to installing that says the side-by-side
configuration is incorrect and that the application cannot start. It also says
at the same time that it cannot load the DLL library at
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MACROMED\SHOCKWAVE 10\GI.DLL. This directory doesn't exist
when I look for it.
I have tried running it in compatibility mode and Run as Admin when installing
it.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Re: Shockwave Installer Error
I have the exact same problem. I'm running Vista Pro 64-bit as well. Tried the same things the first poster tried. Just wanted to say it's not just him.

Re: Shockwave Installer Error
I too am having the problem. Adobe says that this program is compatible with 64 bit if you run it in a 32 bit browser.

Re: Shockwave Installer Error
I tried this personally (cut/paste), got access denied. Just so that you know, you can copy/paste instead. :)

Re: Shockwave Installer Error
I did as suggested and now the player works. Problem is its XTREMELY SLOW. Can't play games because the animation plays at like 1 frame per second. Anyone else experience this??

Re: Shockwave Installer Error
I have WinXP Pro x64 and had the same problem. WinXP Pro x64 also has a
\sysWOW64 subdirectory and sure enough I found a \macromed subdirectory within
it. Based on PLECAG's post, I copied the \Macromed subdirectory from my
\sysWOW64 subdirectory to my \System32 subdirectory and was finally able to
install the shockwave player. The install was rough, and it appeared that I
had to install the google toolbar to be able to get the flash player (I'll now
have to uninstall the google toolbar). The install bar advanced to the end and
nothing more happened. After I manually refreshed the browser page, the
install routine finally completed and the shockwave piece played in the
installer window.
Maybe it's just me, but it seems that this is a flaw in Adobe's installation
process. If you're using a 32-bit browser, it should install and point to the
System32 subdirectory ... but if you're using the 64-bit browser, it should
install and point to the sysWOW64 subdirectory. Those of us who are
experiencing this problem are probably using the 32-bit browser.

Re: Shockwave Installer Error
We can't expect customers to rummage is system folders and move files around,
but some are using Vista 64 bit and more will use it soon.
Is this the end of the line for Shockwave? I for one don't see much point in
using it to put 3d or anything else on the web at the moment.

Same thing; its side by side configuration is incorrect.

I believe vickierock's answer may work for IE, but not for Firefox.

Re: Shockwave Installer Error
I have XP Pro x64. Launch IE7 32-bit version and not the 64-bit version. Then, you can install Shockwave. I needed it for the Rosetta Stone langauge software.

It works... copying that directory, then re-installing the player seemed to do
the trick! Thank you master-max!

Re: Shockwave Installer Error
As I see it the problem is that we need to do things like this. Great - I can
see my own work , but I can see it on an old 32 bit machine already. Are
schools, higher and further ed institutions and home users meant to do this
sort of thing with every 64 bit machine they?ve bought?
I guess most new machines sold for the last few months are 64 bit Vista
Machines. Shockwave doesn't work on then unless their owners have read this
forum and fiddled with files in places most customers are frightened of. The
majority of machines that are going to be sold in the coming months will have
the same problem.
Think I?ll move to put my 3d on the web with WireFusion.
